[December 11th] Dip-Dyed Candles

Fräulein Zebra Xmas

Okay, let’s be honest: Do you already have all your christmas gifts? Nope? I thought so but that’s totally okay – I might have a solution for you:

Dip-Dyed Candles

Ombre and all its variations might be a little overused by now but it’s still very beautiful so I’m gonna share this neat little DIY with you!

You will need:

MaterialOmbreKerzen

  • plain white candles
  • neutral wax scraps
  • wax crayons
  • a tall, heat-proof jar
  • pot & whisk
  • non-stick pad

Melt the wax scraps in a little pot on medium heat until everything is melted and you can remove the wicks. Take 1-2 crayons – in whatever colour you choose – and put them into the hot wax. Stir until the crayons dissolved completely and the wax isn’t clear anymore. Carefully pour the mix into the jar.

Grab your candles by the wicks and dip them into the coloured wax. At the first dip you should put them almost completely into the wax, each dip afterwards should be a bit shorter. The colour will get brighter with every dip but make sure you don’t dip them more than 6 or 7 times or the candle will get asymmetric. Wait a couple of seconds between the dips.

When your happy with the result put the candle on a non-stick surface and let them set. If it’s necessary you can use a knife to even the bottoms a bit.

If the ombre look is too soft for your taste you can also opt for a color block look with brighter colours and higer contrast!

Have a colourful week & HAPPY CRAFTING!
