Christmas Ornaments made from Saltdough

I think it’s fair to say saltdough is somewhat outdated but it’s still a great resource for crafting and I like to use it for all occasions.. for example to make gorgeous ornaments for you christmas tree!

Youw will need:

  • 90g flour
  • 30g starch
  • 110g salt
  • 125ml water
  • 1 tbsp oil

Mix all the ingredients and knead until a firm dough forms. Roll the dough out on a well floured surface and use cookie cutters to make the shapes (stars, circles, …). Don’t forget to make little holes to hang the ornaments after drying.

Heat up your oven to 165°F. Bake the saltdough for 1 hour. Increse the heat to 250°F and bake for another hour. Lastly set the oven to 300°F and bake for 1 hour.

Let your ornaments cool completely, then hang them on your tree!

You can make any shape you want and also paint the ornaments after baking but I really loved the natural look and they fit my christmas tree made of cherry branches perfectly!

By the way: I actually managed to only break two of my glass ornaments – this is a new record!

Enjoy the last days before christmas & HAPPY CRAFTING!
